Technical Abstract: The biosynthesis of hydroxyalkenals by plants has been previously researched in our laboratory. This communication briefly reviews how 3Z-alkenals originating from the lipoxygenase pathway are oxidized into hydroxyalkenals. Judging from the intense interest in hydroxyalkenals' involvement in various mammalian oxidative-stress- related pathologies, a similar role is implied in the physiology of plants
