Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: The Uniform Regional Hard Red Spring Wheat Performance Nursery was grown for the 70th year in 1998. It was composed of 33 entries from AgriPro, South Dakota State University, North Dakota State University, Montana State University, Washington State University, Western Plant Breeders, USDA-ARS University of Minnesota, and Agric. Canada in Manitoba and Saskatchewan. The nursery was grown at 19 locations in Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, Montana, Wyoming, Washington, and Canada. Adult leaf and stem rust readings were obtained on the entries in North Dakota and seedling stem rust reactions to various isolates were obtained at St. Paul, Minnesota. Fusarium Head Blight evaluations were obtained in inoculated and misted nurseries at St. Paul and Morris, Minnesota, and at Brookings, South Dakota. No entry significantly exceeded Verde, the highest yielding check in the Nursery, but five lines had numerically higher yields, SD3348, ND691, MN93413, N93-0119, and ND695. The highest yielding entries in the first LSD unit over two years (28 location-years) were MN93413, ND691, ND695, N930119, and SD8119. The entries over two years with highest test weight were SD3310 and ND694.
