Tour for the Environmental Program manager and staff from Broward County: April 4, 2019
The Environmental Program Manager and Staff from Broward County took a tour through our lab. They were excited to experience our quarantine area and know about new research on controlling invasive plant species.
Eagle Scout Project: April 6, 2019
Davis McLaughlin an Eagle Scout candidate organized a project, replacing our PVC floating island, to a sustainable bamboo construction containing all native plants. This floating island not only contains aquatic native plants, it contains plants which many butterflies and pollinators are attracted. It is placed in our Florida native garden called KIND (Keep It Native Demonstration). This garden is a learning Demonstration Garden to many students and visitors to our facility.
Technical Advisory Committee visit: April 8-12, 2019
The IPRL was honored to have the Technical Advisory Committee (TAG) at our location. We hosted tours through our labs for them to see our research and observe our biological control agents. They were also able to visit quarantine labs and our KIND Garden (Keep It Native Demonstration). On April 12, they experienced an air boat tour to our field locations.
Earth Day Table Display at NSU: April 22, 2019
Scientific Technicians Danyelle Fitzgerald and Eileen Pokorny set up a table display on the Nova Southeastern University Campus. They shared the IPRL research to interested students. Many did not know about the importance of controlling invasive plants in our country.
Lab Tour for FAU representatives: April 24,2019
Three student career representatives for Florida Atlantic University experienced a tour through our lab as well as the KIND Garden. We exchanged information introducing interns from FAU for work in the environmental science fields.
