Little Topashaw Creek - Sediments deposited within the debris structures were scoured away

location of acoustic doppler logger

Surveys of cross section where dopplers were located

Acoustic-doppler depth-velocity loggers were placed at the toe of an eroding bank in a sharp bend and at the channel centerline a few m away. The bank toe was protected with large woody debris structures in July 2000. Initially, the velocities at the bank toe were depressed and sediments were deposited. The weight of these sediments helped to anchor the LWDS in place during 2001. However, as parts of the debris structure were lost, velocity levels at the bank toe grew closer to centerline velocities, and deposited sediments were scoured away. The debris structure failed on November 29, 2001.
