The concept of a computerized gin process was developed at the CGRU during the late 1980's and 1990's. In 1997, Zellweger Uster,Inc., now Uster Inc., a Knoxville company agreed to a contract with the USDA to produce and sell the specialized system, which became known as the Uster Intelligin.
