My goal is to develop integrated strategies for managing plant-parasitic nematodes in agronomic and forage crops that reduce costly and environmentally disruptive inputs while maintaining profitable yields. Current research is directed toward: 1) determining the effect of cropping practices such as rotation, tillage, and cover crops on plant-parasitic nematodes and their natural enemies; 2) developing peanut germplasm and cultivars with resistance to root-knot nematodes; 3) understanding the mechanism by which root-knot nematodes increase pre-harvest aflatoxin contamination in peanut; 4) evaluating different tall fescue/endophyte combinations for resistance to the lesion nematode; and 5) characterizing nematode resistance in pearl millet. |
