Plant Inventory Books

The Plant Inventory (PI) Books contain information on plant material introduced into the U.S. National Plant Germplasm System (NPGS). This is not a list of plant material for distribution. To query for germplasm that is available for distribution from the NPGS, go to the GRIN search page. PI Books were printed as bound paper volumes from 1898-2008. The PI Books have been digitized and since 2009 comparable information was entered only into GRIN accession detail pages. Links were created on every accession detail page in GRIN to the corresponding page in the PI Book. The PI Books are also available from the USDA National Agricultural Library (NAL) through their Digital Collections. The NAL version includes basic search and export features.
