Biography and Research

Fred Eller has worked as Research Chemist at ARS in Peoria since 1990. He received his B.Sc. (1980) from the University of Minnesota and his Ph.D. (1990) from the University of Florida. He conducted postdoctoral research at NCAUR on the aggregation pheromone of the pepper weevil. Currently, Dr. Eller works with scientists at NCAUR conducting research on the following project: “Development of Enhanced Bio-Based Products from Low Value Agricultural Co-Products and Wastes”. The primary goals of this research are to isolate and identify bioactive compounds from agriculture materials and co-products and develop new uses for these compounds. These objectives are accomplished by optimizing extraction efficiencies and fractionations, using analytical chemistry to identify chemical compounds, and testing compounds for biological activity for new uses.
