Biography and Research
Fred Felker has worked as a plant physiologist at ARS in Peoria since 1984. He received his B.S. and M.S. degrees in Horticulture and Plant Physiology from Pennsylvania State University. After receiving his Ph.D. in Plant Physiology from Purdue University, he conducted postdoctoral research at the University of Wisconsin. His research specialties include light and electron microscopy and structural analysis. Currently, his research involves investigations of processing technologies for starch, amylose inclusion complexes and pulse products. The goal of the research is to develop new biobased applications for starch and to enable increased utilization of pulses as food ingredients.
