Mark Busman has worked as chemist at ARS in Peoria since 2005. After receiving his B.S. in Chemistry and Mathematics from Augustana College (Sioux Falls, SD) and Ph.D. in Chemistry from Montana State University, he conducted postgraduate research on protein mass spectrometry at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory and Medical University of South Carolina. Currently, Dr. Busman is a member of a team of scientists that conduct research on development of methods to reduce mycotoxin contamination in food and feed products. The goals of his research are to develop chemical tools to monitor variation in mycotoxin production in Fusarium and to determine the roles of mycotoxin production in the ecology of Fusarium. He develops chemical techniques to rapidly assess mycotoxin contamination in food and feed matrices. He uses a wide variety of mass spectrometry methods to address these objectives.
