Saseendran S. Anapalli has a doctorate in ‘Soil and Crop Sciences’ from Colorado State University, USA, and another doctorate in ‘Water Resources from Jawaharlal Technological University, India.
His research in CPSRU focuses on developing climate-smart soil-water-crop management systems that adapt to and mitigate climate variability and change impacts in production systems in the midsouth USA. Of particular interest is developing and testing novel soil-crop-residue management systems resilient to climate extremes specific to the Delta region. He also uses specially designed plant growth chambers and systems to investigate the impact of increasing greenhouse gas and rising temperatures on the production and growth responses of cotton, corn, soybean, and rice crops in the region. Investigating and modeling cropping system responses to weather extremes and analyzing the impacts of GCM projected climate impacts on cropping systems in the Mississippi Delta is another area of active interest.
Dr. Anapalli is a Fellow of the American Society of Agronomy (2021) and recipient of the Soil Science Society of America Ahuja Agricultural System Modeling Award (2021). He received the Outstanding Scientist of Indian Origin Award from the Association of Agricultural Scientists of Indian Origin (2019). Dr. Anapalli and his team received the USDA-ARS Superior Technology Transfer Award (2006), Excellence in Technology Transfer Award from the Federal Laboratory Consortium (2007), and the Colorado Governor’s High Impact Climate Change Award (2012). He has served as section chair for Climatology and Modeling, Chair of Model Applications in Field Research, Global Climate Change, Agroclimatology and Agronomic Modeling, and Evapotranspiration Measurement and Modeling communities of the American Society of Agronomy.
