The foliar entomology laboratory seeks to improve pest management of small fruit and ornamental nursery pests.
Current work focuses on spotted-wing drosophila, brown marmorated lace bug, azalea lace bug, and thrips. Our approaches include developing biological control tactics, comparing plant cultivars for susceptibility, and studying the life cycle of insects to refine management tactics. Additionally, we study how diet or the nutrient status of insects affect various behaviors, such as overwintering, flight, and parasitism.
