The Roman L. Hruska Meat Animal Research Center (USMARC) is 35,000 acres in rural Clay County Nebraska. The center was established in 1964 to solve high priority problems for the beef, sheep, and swine industries. USMARC is recognized around the world for the comprehensive research and industry solutions produced over the last six decades and that legacy continues to this day.
USMARC is home to a large team of world-renowned scientists who are passionate about providing the livestock and agricultural industry with solutions for their highest priorities production challenges on the farm and ranch. USMARC science-based solutions are used to improve management practices, animal health and welfare, consumer experience and wellbeing, and improve efficiency and sustainability of production systems.
The Germplasm Evaluation Project (GPE) is one of the longest-running studies of its kind in the world and continues to serve the beef industry by providing comprehensive annual breed and crossbreeding genetic and genomic evaluations. The GPE program contributes immensely each year to the efficiency, genetic progress, and overall value of the American cattle industry.
Are you or a college student you know looking for an opportunity to gain scientific research experience and to work with world-renowned scientists? USMARC offers summer internships in a variety of research fields. Eligible applicants must be currently enrolled in a college or university and have completed a minimum of their freshman year. The U.S. Meat Animal Research Center encompasses just under 35,000 acres that are comprised of interacting agroecosystems and environmental landscapes and provides diverse and unique research opportunities for dozens of research projects that include animal genetics, health, and physiology; water quality and environmental sustainability; and meat quality and safety for the beef, sheep and pork industries.
