Exercise for Better Bones – Day or Night?
Why are we doing this Study?
We know that humans have biological rhythms with the change of day and night cycle and these rhythms affect short- and long-term physiological and physical performance. The purpose of this study is to research the effects of the early morning vs early evening exercise on bone and related changes. We expect to find out whether the timing of exercise affects bone health.
Who is eligible for this Study?
- Postmenopausal women within 1-10 years after menopause
- Age less than 65 old
- Normal weight to overweight
- Not currently exercising more than 30 minutes/day on more than 2 days/week and no physically active employment
- Free of any medical conditions that prevent you from safely participating in physical activity
- No problems sleeping
- Willing to comply with the study protocol
- Not to travel to locations with a tropical climate two weeks prior to the study or during the washout period
What is required of me for this study?
- You will exercise 30 minutes per day, 5 days per week for 2 weeks early in the morning or in the early evening. Then you will switch to the other time frame for exercise after a 4-6-week break.
- You will eat all foods we provide during the study plus one week before the exercise period
- You will complete fitness tests, blood tests, and other tests over the course of the study.
Will I get compensated for my time?
You may be compensated up to $1,710 for participating, or you will receive up to a 39-month individual membership or a 28-month family membership to the Choice Health and Fitness Center.

Please be aware, compensation is offered for study participation. If you are not a United States citizen, you should check your documentation to make sure you can receive money from a non-University source without jeopardizing your status in the United States.
