Why are we doing this study?

The purpose of this research is to test if playing games designed to improve your executive function can change your views about the types of foods you eat. Executive function is a set of mental processes that you use every day to make decisions – such as what kinds of foods you choose to eat and when and where you eat those foods.

This study is being supported by USDA ARS #3062-51000-057-00D.

Who is eligible for this study?

  • US. citizen between the ages of 18 and 70 years.
  • Do not use tobacco products.
  • >Have a BMI of 23–38 kg/m2.
  • Are not currently dieting to lose weight.
  • Have not lost or gained more than 5.0 lbs. over the past 3 months.
  • Are not pregnant.
  • Do not have a history of bariatric surgery.
  • Do not have diagnosis of major medical or psychiatric condition that would interfere with participation.

What is required of me for this study?

  • We expect that your taking part in this research will last about 10 weeks.<
  • You must have continuous access to a computer, laptop, tablet or smartphone that is connected to the internet.
  • You will need to download an authenticator app on your device for two-factor authentication.
  • Complete questionnaires asking about yourself, your health, your diet and eating habits, your stress, and how much you like and are willing to pay for certain foods – this will happen at the beginning and end of the study.
  • Play 4 different games to test executive function at the beginning and end of the study.
  • Play 4 games a minimum of twice each week on two separate days for 8 weeks.

Will I get compensated for my time?

After you finish the study, you will receive $340. To get this payment you must complete all the tasks mentioned in this form.

Important Information for Non-US Citizens

Please be aware, compensation is offered for study participation. If you are not a United States citizen, you should check your documentation to make sure you can receive money from a non-University source without jeopardizing your status in the United States.
