Research Project: Ecology of Hydrogen-Producing and Hydrogen-Consuming Microbial Populations in the Gut of Food-Producing Animals and their Production Environment

Location: Food and Feed Safety Research

Project Number: 3091-32420-001-005-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Sep 1, 2017
End Date: Aug 31, 2022

Objective:
USDA/ARS and Cooperator will work to characterize factors affecting competitiveness, resistance, and virulence of hydrogen-producing and hydrogen-consuming microbial populations in the gut of food-producing animals.

Approach:
Microbiological cultivation studies will be paired with metagemonic analyses to characterize phenotypic and genotypic factors affecting ability of foodborne pathogens to survive in the gut of food-producing animals and their production environment.
