Objective:
USDA/ARS and Cooperator will work to characterize factors affecting competitiveness, resistance, and virulence of hydrogen-producing and hydrogen-consuming microbial populations in the gut of food-producing animals.

Approach:
Microbiological cultivation studies will be paired with metagemonic analyses to characterize phenotypic and genotypic factors affecting ability of foodborne pathogens to survive in the gut of food-producing animals and their production environment.
