Research Project: Managing Nutrients and Carbon to Optimize Agroecosystem Productivity and Resilience

Location: Poultry Production and Product Safety Research

Project Number: 6022-63000-006-017-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Jul 1, 2019
End Date: Jun 30, 2024

Objective:
To use agricultural technologies to improve understanding of linkages among hydrology, landscape attributes, and soil properties to plant growth and animal response. To understand antimicrobial resistant gene movement to surface and groundwater from poultry litter applications for developing best management practices.

Approach:
Evaluate causative factors of preferential grazing and plant response by assessing soil nutrient, carbon, and water availabilities using digital agriculture platforms across the landscape. In addition, through this agreement we will integrate agricultural technologies [e.g., Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR), ground penetrating radar, and remote sensing technologies) for identifying systems-level interactions.
