Research Project: Fostering Resilience and Ecosystem Services in Landscapes by Integrating Diverse Perennial Circular Systems - Univ of TX in Arlington

Location: Poultry Production and Product Safety Research

Project Number: 6022-63000-006-027-A
Project Type: Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Sep 1, 2022
End Date: May 31, 2026

Objective:
To develop a National Forage Data Hub for minimizing research redundancy and optimizing regional systems.

Approach:
Our team will capitalize on University and Federal Agency’s existing data sources by bridging multiple sources including forage crop—soil—yield (animal and crop) potential (and gaps)—climate—management system spatially and temporally for system interaction assessments through next-generation analytics. Coordinated computational tools will preclude unnecessary redundancies in research by advancing system understandings, as well as allow producers to access information online for optimizing their operation. This novel approach to existing datasets will integrate Big Data at the soil-water-plant-animal-climate nexus to advance data storage technology systems for multiple trophic-level research projects. Development of such a web-based database will: 1) draw upon existing databases/networks to develop a framework for integrating multiple data sources to address systems (GxExMxP) research; 2) advance data visualization tools through statistical inferences and decision support tool development; and 3) develop a cloud-based computing network for scientists to integrate into diverse research programs across multiple spatial and temporal scales (which will serve as an off ramp).
