Research Project: Using Soil and Water Health Assessment Tools to Identify Best Management Strategies

Location: Poultry Production and Product Safety Research

Project Number: 6022-63000-006-030-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: May 1, 2023
End Date: Apr 30, 2028

Objective:
1. Evaluate how conservation agricultural practices impact soil health and water quality using multivariate assessment tools for sustainable intensification. 2. Will estimate soil health spatially based on nutrient and pasture management to identify the role terrain attributes and topography play on soil health assessments for identifying best management strategies.

Approach:
The Soil Management Assessment Framework (SMAF) model is a soil quality evaluation tool and will be applied to investigate the impacts of long-term conservation practices on soil health in numerous experiments, as well evaluate how well soil health estimates relate to water quality and crop production.
