Location: Grain Legume Genetics Physiology Research
Project Number: 2090-21220-003-002-R
Project Type: Reimbursable Cooperative Agreement
Start Date: Nov 1, 2022
End Date: Oct 31, 2025
Objective:
Objective 1: Development of Genomics-assisted models for use in multiple trait selection for climate resilience and cooking quality in dry bean.
Objective 2: Dissection of G x E x M effects on traits affecting maturity and production of dry bean in response to different stress environments.
Objective 3: Breeding dry beans for sustainable production across diverse environments.
Approach:
Collection of agronomic, nutrition, quality, remote sensing, and AI based phenotypic traits across a diverse array of bean genotypes tested in diverse environments across Washington State.
Model fitting for yield, other agronomic, physiological, nutritional, and sensory/processing traits will be conducted using best linear unbiased estimators (BLUEs) for each site-year combination.
Interaction of phenotypic trait x environment x genotype (SNP) data will be used for QTL x environment analyses to develop baseline models for use in genomic-assisted breeding of lines for specific stress and for wide adaptation to multiple stress environments.
Data will contribute to buildng larger models incorporating photo-thermal effects for application in Africa.
