Research Project: Soil Disinfestation Treatments for Organic Carrot Production

Location: Citrus and Other Subtropical Products Research

Project Number: 6034-22000-046-017-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Sep 1, 2023
End Date: Aug 31, 2028

Objective:
The objective of the proposed research is to design and evaluate non-chemical soil disinfestation practices, including anaerobic soil disinfestation, for the production of organic carrots.

Approach:
Cooperative replicated field trials will be established on research station land and with grower cooperators to investigate the impacts of organic amendments, soil solarization, and anaerobic soil disinfestation on carrot pests, including root knot nematodes and weeds, and on carrot productivity in terms of crop yield and quality.
