Research Project: Develop Novel Technology to Respond to Emerging Agriculture Problems in Animal and Food Caused by Pathogens

Location: Produce Safety and Microbiology Research

Project Number: 2030-32000-011-014-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: May 26, 2024
End Date: May 25, 2027

Objective:
This project aims to develop and design specialized pathogen detection systems and intervention, including system optimization, prototyping, testing, and cost estimates to improve surveillance capability.

Approach:
Bioengineering and nanotechnology will be utilized to develop the novel technology. In-house aptamers will be generated to serve as capture and detection elements by conducting SELEX (systematic evolution of ligands by exponential enrichment). Aptamer-based lateral flow assay (aLFA) system will be designed and constructed. The stability and application of the aLFA system will be evaluated.
