Research Project: Classical Swine Fever (CSF) Vaccine FlagT4G Vaccine Efficacy: Assessing Oral Administration and Protection in Pregnant Sows

Location: Research Programs

Project Number: 3022-32000-018-041-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Aug 1, 2024
End Date: Jul 31, 2025

Objective:
Characterize two important issues regarding classical swine fever (CSF) vaccine FlagT4G: (i) Its delivery by the oral route using baits (of paramount importance for its use in programs of wild swine vaccination) and (ii) Evaluate its ability to prevent the infection by virulent field strain of pregnant sows and the consequent protection of their piglets (a study necessary for the evaluation of any potential commercial vaccine strain as recommended by the OIE).

Approach:
There is a need to have a live classical swine fever (CSF) attenuated DIVA compatible vaccine inducing early protection. The main objectives of this project are (i) assess the use of FlagT4G as an oral vaccine and (ii) evaluate FlagT4G vaccine in protecting pregnant sows and the consequent protection of their piglets.
