Research Project: Development of a Tissue-Specific Gene Expression Atlas for Bartlett and Anjou Pears

Location: Physiology and Pathology of Tree Fruits Research

Project Number: 2094-21220-003-014-A
Project Type: Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Apr 1, 2024
End Date: Mar 31, 2025

Objective:
1. Analyze transcriptomic data to determine differentially expressed genes representative of specific tissue types across pear tissues, consistent over multiple years. 2. Develop statistically significant lists of tissue-specific gene expression changes, appropriate for publication. Cooperator will develop this data and work together with ARS PI to publish this work.

Approach:
Eleven tissue types were collected from Bartlett and Anjou pear plants over two seasons, representing buds, flowers, leaves, immature fruit, mature fruit, stems, and roots. RNA has been extracted and sequenced by the ARS PI's group, and the Cooperator will analyze and categorize the sequencing data, using appropriate bioinformatic programs and statistical methods.
