Research Project: Elucidate Key Genes and Processes Involved in Alfalfa Resistance to Stem Nematode Ditylenchus Dipasaci

Location: Molecular Plant Pathology Laboratory

Project Number: 8042-21500-003-002-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Sep 23, 2024
End Date: Sep 22, 2026

Objective:
Objective: Elucidate key genes and processes involved in alfalfa resistance to stem nematode Ditylenchus dipasaci. Sub-objective 1: Decipher molecular mechanisms underlying alfalfa defense responses to Ditylenchus dipasaci. Sub-objective 2: Identify and select genes of Ditylenchus dipasaci that could be targeted for nematode control in alfalfa.

Approach:
- Collection of Ditylenchus dipasaci field samples and culturing of the nematode (Cooperator). - Next generation sequencing (NGS) of alfalfa accessions resistant and susceptible to stem nematode Ditylenchus dipasaci (Cooperator) - Transcriptomic, proteomic and functional analysis of NGS data (ARS and Cooperator)
