Research Project: Application of Bioinformatics Resources toward Transcriptomic Discovery and Characterization of Emerging Diseases of Alfalfa

Location: Molecular Plant Pathology Laboratory

Project Number: 8042-21000-300-002-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Sep 30, 2020
End Date: Sep 29, 2024

Objective:
Objective 1: Using bioinformatics resourses of the Cooperator, identify new and emerging diseases in alfalfa and sugar beet. Objective 2: Using bioinformatics recourses of the Cooperator, identify gene-candidates associated with alfalfa rand sugar beet resistance to biotic stresses.

Approach:
Objective 1: 1) Next generation sequencing (NGS) of alfalfa samples collected from different locations across the USA (ARS). 2) Computational analysis of NGS data (Cooperator). Objective 2: 1) NGS of alfalfa and sugar beet accessions resistant and susceptible to disease-causing pathogens (ARS). 2) Transcriptomic, proteomic and functional analysis of NGS data (Cooperator).
