Location: Immunity and Disease Prevention Research
Project Number: 2032-10700-002-009-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement
Start Date: Sep 1, 2022
End Date: Oct 1, 2026
Objective:
The objective of this Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement (NACA) is to facilitate the joint conduct of rodent studies by the USDA, Agricultural Research Service (ARS), Western Human Nutrition Research Center (WHNRC) on the campus of the University of California, Davis (UC Davis). UC Davis and the WHNRC will conduct 2 to 3 rodent experiments to investigate the impact of changes in standard rodent diet composition on the growth, metabolism, and various markers of health, including the gut microbiota, in mice and rats.
Approach:
UC Davis scientists and staff will support rodent studies conducted by the WHNRC by (1) participating in revisions to study design as needed, including but not limited to discussions of sample size, and feasibility of endpoints, (2) implementing protocols that have been collaboratively developed, (3) providing facilities for housing and experimenting on rodents, as well as (4) employing and providing technical personnel required for research on rodents. Facilities may include, but are not limited to mouse cages and rooms, mouse body composition measurement tools, biosafety cabinets for experimental procedures, and scales for weighing food and mice. At least one study will be conducted by the Mouse Biology Program. Personnel may include, but are not limited to a Mouse Phenotyping Study Manager and Junior Specialists with experience in handling mice/rats.
