Location: Food for Health of People and the Environment Lab
Project Number: 8040-52530-001-004-I
Project Type: Interagency Reimbursable Agreement
Start Date: Aug 30, 2023
End Date: Aug 30, 2028
Objective:
The objective of this Interagency Agreement (IAA) with the USDA, ARS, Food for the Health of the People and Environment Laboratory (FHPEL) is to continue work with The Partnership to improve the use of the Branded Foods process for collecting up-to-date nutrient and serving size information on food items marketed and sold to school food service for inclusion in the CNDB. This will be done utilizing the existing infrastructure of Branded Foods and FDC. In addition, FNS seeks to expand the process to obtain USDA Foods data that is currently being collected through GS1 GDSN; FNS would also like to expand the data processing and compilation services provided by The Partnership to allow for quality control and compilation of the manufacturers’ data, including USDA Foods data, into the CNDB, as well as providing support to food manufacturers who submit their data for CNDB. FNS would also like to enhance the generic food products in the CNDB using data from FDC data sets, such as Foundation Foods and transition away from the use of SR Legacy. In addition, FNS would like to explore additional data sets that could be added to FDC to enhance the CNDB, such as Added Sugars data and USDA Standardized recipe data.
Approach:
Together with the Food for Health of People and the Environment Lab (FHPEL), the Cooperator will oversee the work involved with the development of Child Nutrition Database (CNDB) page and associated requirements within FoodData Central (FDC). The cooperator will ensure the development, testing, installation, and configuration requirements for deployment. In addition, the Cooperator will work with members of the National Agricultural Library to deploy the project, ensuring the project meets 508 compliance and security testing standards. FHPEL assumes responsibility for USDA FoodData Central and will monitor its usage and investigate future needs for intraoperability and linkability to USDA databases.
