Zopfiellin was more effective against the anthracnose-causing fungi and least effective against the vascular wilt fungus. This product could be used in organic strawberry production. Technical Abstract: Abstract: A novel cyclooctanoid natural product, zopfiellin, isolated from Zopfiella curvata No.37-3 with fungicidal activity against Botrytis cinerea was evaluated in a 96-well microtiter assay for activity against Colletotrichum acutatum, C. fragariae and C. gloeosporioides, and Fusarium oxysporum. Zopfiellin showed the most activity against C. gloeosporioides (LD80=10 æM) and C. fragariae (LD80=10 æM), intermediate activity against C. acutatum (LD80=30 æM) and the least activity against Fusarium oxysorum (LD80100 æM) when compared to B. cinerea (LD80=10 æM). Zopfiellin exhibited pH dependent activity with the most mycelial growth inhibition at pH 5.0 and the least activity at pH 7.0. |
