Comprehensive linkage map of bovine chromosome 11. Animal Genetics. 32:92-94. Interpretive Summary: Several projects around the world have produced genetic maps of the bovine using both genetic markers common to several laboratories and markers unique from each laboratory. This paper is the report on the first workshop on the genetic map of bovine chromosome 11. Six laboratories contributed information from 80 genetic markers. Thirty-six were used in at least two independent laboratories and were used to construct a consensus map. The remaining markers were subsequently incorporated to produce a comprehensive map of bovine chromosome 11. This map will enable the refinement of quantitative trait loci of economically important traits in cattle. Technical Abstract: The results of genotypic data contributed for the bovine chromosome 11 (BTA11) is presented. Six laboratories contributed a total of 26199 informative meioses from eighty loci. Thirty-six were typed by at least two independent laboratories and were used to construct a consensus linkage map of the chromosome. The remaining loci were subsequently incorporated into a comprehensive map. The sex-averaged consensus map covered 128.9 cM The female map was 101.2 cM, while the male map was 129.8 cM. The comprehensive sex-averaged map was 134.2 cM and the average genetic distance between loci was 1.72 cM. |
