Interpretive Summary: A large number of components from plants, fungi, lichens and other natural sources were obtained with a view of finding useful agents against the Formosan termite (Coptotermes formosanus). Positive results were obtained from many of these natural sources. Additional studies on groups of compounds with features known or suspected to be associated with antitermite activity, such as quinones (benzo-, naphtho- and anthra-), will be correlated with our results and in the context of the general historical literature.

Technical Abstract: An overview of the literature on investigations of natural products for use against the termite pest Coptotermes formosanus. Our current results in this field are also presented. Results obtained from components of natural sources known to be associated with antitermite activity are presented. Results from additional studies on groups of compounds with structural features known or suspected to be associated with antitermite activity, quinones (benzo-, naphtho- and anthra), are also presented.
