Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: This book chapter discusses citrus culture and history, describes arthropod biologies and injury, and identifies citrus pest management factors to consider for people interested in dooryard or commercial citrus production. Life history, geographic distribution, and injury to citrus foliage, fruit, or bark, is described for over 100 species of mites and insects. Many of the species described are serious pests of citrus throughout the world. Arthropod groups include nine families of Homoptera, four families each of Acari, Isoptera, and Lepidoptera, three families each of Orthoptera and Hemiptera, two families of Diptera, and one family each of Thysanoptera, Coleoptera, Hymenoptera, and Gastropoda. Citrus pest management factors such as fruit market destination, sampling and thresholds, and management strategies for arthropod control are discussed.
