Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: Plants that develop spontaneous lesions that resemble disease symptoms in the absence of pathogen attack are called lesion mimic mutants. One lesion-mimic mutant (LMM1) was identified from an ethyl methane sulfonate mutagenized population of a southern US cultivar, Katy. Inheritance of LMM1 was studied through analysis of a total of 1358 F2 progeny from the cross of LMM1 with the parent Katy. The F2 plant phenotypes segregated 1053 normal: 305 lesion mimic phenotype indicating that lesion-mimic phenotype segregated as a monogenic recessive locus. The usefulness of LMM1 for understanding the mechanisms of resistance is discussed.
