Publication Type: Monograph Publication Acceptance Date: 1/23/2015 Publication Date: N/A Citation: N/A Interpretive Summary: Technical Abstract: The goal of this IARC Working Group Report is to produce a document, based on expertly evaluated scientific evidence, which provides a set of clear, concise and focused messages to inform policymakers, international organizations and funders in their decision-making with regards to appropriate aflatoxin and fumonisin control measures as a basis for improving human health in developing countries . In addition the Working Group Report provides expert recommendations for future high priority research or public health action, specifically with respect to applications in developing countries and at the level of the subsistence farmer. The Working Group Report will be a stimulus to governments, non-governmental and international organizations as well as the private sector to initiate measures designed to minimize aflatoxin and fumonisin exposure in high risk populations. The consensus report provides a scientific description of the occurrence and effects of aflatoxin and fumonisin in both adults and children and provides approaches to reduce exposure with the likely outcome being an improvement in public health in developing countries. |
