Interpretive Summary: The development of new high-oleic peanut cultivars with improved yield, disease resistance, and seed characteristics is essential to the sustainability of the peanut industry in the Southwest. In 2017, a total of 19 commercially available peanut cultivars and high-oleic advanced breeding lines were evaluated in small field plots in Fort Cobb, OK. Environmental conditions in 2017 were favorable for Sclerotinia blight, but relatively little southern blight and pod rot were observed. Of the 10 runner entries evaluated, the three highest entries for yield and crop value were Tamrun OL-11 ($544/acre; 4041 lbs/acre), Lariat ($478/acre; 3636 lbs/acre), and Webb ($472/acre; 3706 lbs/acre). Breeding line ARSOK-R47A had the highest grade of the runner entries at 77%. Tamrun OL11 had the least Sclerotinia blight at 39%, while Florida-07 and Webb had the most at 93% and 81%, respectively. For the three Spanish entries, OLé had the highest crop value ($477/acre) and yield (4260 lbs/acre). ARSOK-S88-2 had the highest grade at 67%. In the Virginia trial containing six entries, crop value and yield were highest in Florida Fancy ($475/acre, 3741 lbs/acre), VENUS ($433/acre, 3364 lbs/acre), and ARSOK-V85-377 ($417/acre, 3086 lbs/acre). ARSOK-V85-7 had the highest grade at 78%. Florida Fancy and VENUS had the least Sclerotinia blight (48% and 40%, respectively). In pod size distribution, the largest super jumbo pods were found in ARSOK-V85-377 and Wynne (9 pods/oz). ARSOK-V85-7 had the largest jumbo pods at 11 pods/oz, but no differences were found among entries in the number of fancy pods per ounce. Florida Fancy had the largest pass-through pods at 23 pods/oz. These results demonstrate ongoing progress in breeding improved peanut cultivars.

Technical Abstract: Disease evaluations of advanced peanut breeding lines are conducted annually to compare the agronomic traits (crop value, yield, seed grade and characteristics) and disease resistance in cultivars that are currently available or close to being released for the Southwest.
