Farming and ranching for the bottom line research updates. Meeting Abstract. 1. Interpretive Summary: Technical Abstract: Cropping system and grazing research results are presented, primarily for the 2022 growing season. Growing season precipitation was near normal, but most of it was received in July. The season started cooler but ended warm and dry. Crop results showed lower yields than typical for pulse crops and buckwheat due to stand establishment issues and weed pressures. Results also showed promising soil structure benefits before soybean planting associated with overwintering cover crops. On grazinglands, recovery post-drought was slow but productivity bounced back as the growing season progressed. Grazing and fire treatments have shown decreases in invasive grasses and increases in desired perennials. |
