The study aimed to determine dry matter accumulation and partitioning in five corn hybrids with different traits and nitrogen rates. The experimental design was a split randomized block design with two nitrogen fertilizer rates (224 and 336 kg ha-1). The corn hybrids with different traits (conventional non-trait, roundup ready, liberty link + roundup ready, 2-4, D, and VYHR) were randomized. Plot dimensions were ~33 m x ~12 m. Six plants (from the outer rows) were randomly sampled at V10, V14, R2, and R6 to evaluate seasonal biomass and dry matter accumulation when at least 50% of the plants exhibited the respective growth stage. Fresh biomass was recorded. Biomass samples were separated into four components and were reported as stalk (stalk and leaf sheaths), leaf (leaf blades), reproductive (tassel, cob, and husk), and grain tissues for further analysis. The sample was dried ~72-96 hrs. at 75 'C until the constant weight to record the dry matter accumulations. The impact of N rates on dry matter accumulations in different hybrids and yields will be statistically analyzed and compared. The results will provide insights into how dry matter accumulation and N rates relates to corn grain yield in different corn hybrids. |
