Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: Society’s continued reliance on petroleum-based plastics for single use applications has major negative consequences and is unsustainable. The Bioproducts Research Unit at the USDA Western Regional Research Center has multiple projects focused on the conversion of undervalued agricultural and food coproducts into valuable bioproducts that can functionally replace many traditional plastics. In this presentation, I will be giving an overview of our research with particular emphasis on the utilization of coproducts from the dairy processing industry.
