Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: The article provides an update on the Healthy Soil, Healthy Food, Healthy People Initiative. We introduce the importance of plant secondary metabolites and describe a research approach towards identifying potential linkages between soil and human health by evaluating plant secondary metabolites in food crops. We discuss current and planned projects and analyses which will allow us to answer several questions about how management influences the soil and plant function of different crops, and how management influences the quality and nutrient composition of the crops produced.
