Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: Alternative approaches, such as using formative research, building community measures, and including community perspectives in the process can help us determine which theoretical framework best fits the concepts of food and nutrition security. Existing scales and screeners can address access, availability, and affordability components of nutrition security as well as help determine whether individual's perception of their nutrition security aligns with objective measures of nutrition security. Area or community level measures can identify vulnerable areas for effectively managing or targeting community resources and monitor effects of community interventions. Finally, including community perspective is essential to address health inequities by establishing trust and bidirectional communication mechanisms.
