Interpretive Summary: Data tables summarizing dietary intakes of the U.S. population can readily be used by government groups, nutrition researchers, and the general public. The Food Surveys Research Group of the Beltsville Human Nutrition Research Center has analyzed dietary data from the What We Eat in America (WWEIA), National and Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) August 2021-August 2023 and developed tables summarizing nutrient intakes from foods and beverages. The data tables provide information on nutrient intakes as well as for percentages of nutrients contributed by foods eaten away from home, at breakfast, at lunch, at dinner, and as snacks; distribution of snack occasions; and distribution of meal patterns. The table set also includes nutrient intakes per 1,000 kilocalories; and nutrient intakes from foods and beverages obtained from full service restaurants, quick service restaurants, and all restaurants. All tables are available on the FSRG website: www.ars.usda.gov/nea/bhnrc/fsrg. The availability and enhanced accessibility of these new tables are a benefit to users in need of current population-level information on nutrient intakes of Americans. Technical Abstract: The Food Surveys Research Group of the Beltsville Human Nutrition Research Center has analyzed dietary data from the What We Eat in America (WWEIA), National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) August 2021-August 2023 and released summary data tables on nutrient intakes of the U.S. population. The tables provide population estimates for the following: nutrient intakes from food and beverages for energy and 64 nutrients/dietary components; percentages of energy from macronutrients; percentages of selected nutrients contributed by foods eaten away from home, at breakfast, at lunch, at dinner, and as snacks; distribution of snack occasions; and distributions of meal patterns. In addition, summary tables provide data on nutrient intakes per 1,000 kilocalories; and nutrient intakes from foods and beverages obtained from full service restaurants, quick service restaurants, and all restaurants. Estimated means and standard errors are provided by age/gender groups as well as race/ethnicity and income as a percent of poverty threshold. In WWEIA, NHANES, dietary intakes are collected using the USDA 5-step Automated Multiple-Pass Method. All tables are available on the FSRG website: www.ars.usda.gov/nea/bhnrc/fsrg. |
