Nutrition Security

Whereas the focus of food security is on the ability to acquire enough food, nutrition security, a relatively new concept, focuses on the ability to acquire food that promotes health. Shifting the focus from food to nutrition security will require thoughtful evaluation of screening tools and thorough elucidation and comparison of mechanistic actions of food and nutrition security on food choice and diet quality.
