PRIORITIES SET
On June 19th, the three Mississippi Delta MSEA (MDMSEA) co-chairmen met in Starkville, MS to prioritize Technical Steering Committee /MDMSEA tasks for the next year or so. Lists of items were prioritized as either high, medium, or low priority. Items of highest immediate concern included: (1) A QA/QC committee, (2) Data availability/sharing committee, (3) Yearly research reports by scientists, and (4) A detailed survey/delineation of the smaller research sub-watersheds. While not as of as high priority, other nifty things under consideration include: (1) A MDMSEA/Agribusiness day, (2) W.W.W. home page for MSMSEA Project, (3) A new MSMSEA video, and (4) A one day informal sit-down meeting of all MDMSEA scientists. COMING VERY SOON a beautifully well done trifold brochure describing the MSEA Project as well as a large 3? by 6? poster. All research locations will receive copies of these materials.
RECENT EVENTS
- May 20---Additional special temporary funding in the amount of $100,000 has been received from ARS for FY 96. These funds are specifically earmarked for socioeconomics (specific cooperative agreement with MSU) and riparian zone (specific cooperative agreement with UM) research.
- June 6--Ron Phelps (Environmental Scientist, USEPA, Water Management District, Atlanta) briefly visited Deep Hollow Watershed. Mr. Phelps is a USEPA liaison to NRCS and has primary responsibility for funding for the 319 Model Farm program, which includes Deep Hollow. He is very impressed with the research being conducted and plans longer visits in the near future.

- August 8---Field day / tour of Deep Hollow Lake Watershed.
- August 13-16---Delta Symposium, Cook Convention Center, Memphis.
