Paul VanRaden is a senior research geneticist in the Animal Genomics and Improvement Laboratory, ARS, USDA, in Beltsville, MD. He develops methods to compute genetic evaluations and genomic predictions. He investigates differences among dairy cattle for many traits and estimates trait economic values in genetic-economic indexes for lifetime merit. He also develops efficient statistical methods to process phenotype, genotype, pedigree, and DNA sequence data for very large national and international populations.
