Research Project: Elucidation of Genetic Elements Governing Quality Traits in Cauliflower

Location: Plant, Soil and Nutrition Research

Project Number: 8062-21000-050-012-A
Project Type: Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: May 1, 2022
End Date: Nov 30, 2024

Objective:
1) To genetically investigate the genes responsible for chloroplast development in the green cauliflower mutant, 2) To transform the candidate genes into cauliflower and functionally characterize the transgenic plants, and 3) To identify additional genetic elements in mediating plastid development and nutrient accumulation.

Approach:
The approaches include to use genetic, omics, and molecular tools for candidate gene isolation, functional confirmation, gene characterization, and to develop markers, molecular tools and strategies for crop nutritional quality improvement via traditional breeding and/or biotechnology.
