Research Project: A New Mechanism to Improve Crop Yield and Nutritional Quality

Location: Plant, Soil and Nutrition Research

Project Number: 8062-21000-050-034-A
Project Type: Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Sep 1, 2024
End Date: Aug 31, 2025

Objective:
The objectives of this cooperative research are: 1) to isolate the genes interacting with ORANGE proteins in participating the regulation of fruit yield in tomato and other crops; 2) to validate their involvement; and 3) to investigate their control mechanisms.

Approach:
The approaches include using genetic, omics and molecular tools for candidate gene isolation, functional confirmation, gene characterization. It is our goal to develop markers, molecular tools and strategies for improvement of crop yield in addition to nutritional quality via traditional breeding and/or biotechnology.
