Research Project: Genetic Approaches of Improving Crop Nutritional Quality Traits

Location: Plant, Soil and Nutrition Research

Project Number: 8062-21000-050-007-A
Project Type: Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Aug 15, 2019
End Date: Aug 14, 2024

Objective:
The objectives of this cooperative research are: 1) to isolate the genetic elements important for phytonutrient and micronutrient metabolism in vegetable and fruit crops; 2) to examine the genetic and molecular basis for their functions in plants; and 3) to develop crops with improved quality traits.

Approach:
The approaches include to: use molecular, biochemical, and genetic tools for gene isolation and metabolite analysis; to employ omics approaches for global changes and generating new hypothesis; and to use traditional breeding and genetic approaches for developing nutritional quality trait enhanced crops.
