Location: Meat Safety and Quality

Project Number: 3040-31430-007-002-M
Project Type: Memorandum of Understanding

Start Date: Sep 17, 2019

Objective:
The Agriculture Improvement Act of 2018 directed USDA to establish regional centers to provide education and training for cattle and carcass beef graders of the Agricultural Marketing Service, cattle producers, and other professionals involved in the reporting, delivery, and grading of feeder cattle, live cattle, and carcasses. The Centers will limit the subjectivity in the application of beef grading standards, provide producers with greater confidence in the price of the producers’ cattle, and provide investors more assurance in the cattle delivery system.

Approach:
Per Public Law 115-334, Section 12108 of Title XII, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) will establish a Cattle and Carcass Grading Correlation and Training Center at the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Agricultural Research Service, U.S. Meat Animal Research Center (ARS-USMARC) to provide education and training for cattle and carcass beef graders and market reporters of the Agricultural Marketing Service, cattle producers, and other professionals involved in the reporting, delivery, and grading of feeder cattle, live cattle, and carcasses.
