Research Project: Development of Pan-genomic & Computational Resources for Agriculture

Location: Plant, Soil and Nutrition Research

Project Number: 8062-21000-051-002-A
Project Type: Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Sep 15, 2022
End Date: Sep 14, 2025

Objective:
The objectives of this cooperatave research project are to generate genomics and computational infrastructure for Agriculture.

Approach:
Technological advancements in sequencing, imaging, sensors, and robotics are supporting unprecedented opportunities to generate data. With each of these advances there is a need to update best practices for capturing, analyzing, and disseminating data. There is also a need to integrate across diverse data points. This ability to integrate provides unique insights into how any organism develops and responds to its environment. In this proposal we will focus on utilizing current and emerging genomic, genetic and computational resources. We will leverage best practices developed for human health and apply them toward agronomically important species and their models where appropriate, and where plant specific standards are required, we will coordinate with the community on their development. The genetic resources and computational infrastructure will support insights into plant genome function, identification of candidate genes associated with agronomically important traits, and support stewardship of plant data through interactive web portals.
